Located in the heart of the Central Adirondack Mountains, The Turner Camps has been family owned and operated for over 100 years. We welcome new guests and old friends to join us each season.

Today the property sits on four acres on the north shore of Fourth Lake, eight miles from the Old Forge Information Center on Route 28 — at 1,800 ft. elevation, with 150 ft. of sandy, shallow, child-safe lakefront. Eight cottages are rented through the season (plus Tamarack for winter), each nestled in its own wooded setting. Free dockage is available for guests.

What we believe in

Quiet matters. The lake is the program. The Adirondacks have been welcoming people who came to slow down for over a century, and we'd like to keep doing that.

Coming back matters. We try to keep our prices fair, because we'd rather see the same families return year after year. Many of our guests have been coming back for decades.

The land

Fourth Lake is one of the Fulton Chain — a string of eight lakes that stretch through the western Adirondacks. The water is cold and clear and ringed by pine, hemlock, and birch. Kayaking and boating are welcome from our dock.

The cottages

Eight cottages are rented through the summer season — Birch, Hemlock, Spruce, Beech, Locust, Maple, Tanglefoot, and Balsam — each with a full kitchen, charcoal grill, and picnic table. Tamarack Lodge is reserved for winter rentals only. Cottages range from a one-bedroom for four guests up to Tanglefoot, which sleeps eight.

The season

Weekly rentals run from the end of June through Labor Day, Saturday-to-Saturday (4:00 PM check-in, 10:00 AM check-out). Off-season rentals are available with a two-night minimum. Half the weekly rate is required as a deposit. We accept cash or personal check; no credit cards. Although we love pets, no pets are allowed on property.

A familiar mark

The cabin sketch

A simple hand-drawn cabin under a pair of pines, with "The Turner Camps — Cottages on Fourth Lake" lettered beneath. It's been our mark for years and we like it.

Some things change over the years — roofs, docks, the website you're looking at right now. The cabin sketch isn't one of them.

A small thing we love

The chairs

The Adirondack chair was first built right here in the Adirondacks — Thomas Lee, in nearby Westport, NY, designed the original "Westport plank chair" in 1903. We have a few of them on the dock, painted red, sturdy and a little awkward to drag around. The angle is exactly right for falling asleep to lake sounds.

Many of our guests tell us the chairs were a highlight. We agree.
